Fumo Ordered to Pay Additional $400K

A federal judge has ordered a once-powerful state senator from Philadelphia who served four years in prison for fraud to pay $400,000 in additional restitution.

Former state Sen. Vincent Fumo has already paid about $4 million in restitution but government prosecutors said that wasn't enough.

A judge on Tuesday ordered the 71-year-old former Democratic lawmaker to shell out another $400,000.

Fumo was convicted in 2009 of defrauding the Senate, a neighborhood nonprofit and a seaport museum. He was released from prison last August.

Defense attorneys accused the government of participating in an ongoing vendetta against their client and suggested federal prosecutors were misleading the judge.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Zauzmer claims that Fumo engaged in "extensive shenanigans in an effort to shield his assets."
