Free Library to Open Exhibit in Honor of Mormon Temple

The Free Library of Philadelphia will open an exhibit next week in honor of its newest neighbor — the state's first Mormon temple in Philadelphia.

The new Mormon temple at 17th and Vine streets opened its doors earlier this month for public tours, which will run through Sept. 9 before the temple closes to the public forever. A dedication is planned for Sept. 18. The temple will then only be open to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Rare Book Department of the Free Library, which is located a short walk from the temple on Vine Street, will open its exhibition An American-born Faith: Writings from the First Century of Mormonism in honor of the temple.

The exhibition will run from Aug. 15 through Feb. 6, 2017.
