Former N.J. Police Officer Charged With Torching Home

A former police officer in northern New Jersey has been charged with setting fire to his home.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office says former Carteret police officer David Boland was charged Wednesday with aggravated arson.

Prosecutors say the 52-year-old set fire to his home Oct. 20 in Woodbridge.
 
Prosecutors say an investigation into the fire concluded it had been intentionally set. Investigators say neighbors alerted authorities about the fire, which resulted in extensive damage to the home, but no injuries.
 
Boland retired in 1998 on a disability pension from the Carteret police department, where he was a police officer for more than 13 years.
 
He' being held at a Middlesex County jail on $150,000 bail.
 
It is not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
