Fishermen will have 25 fewer days to catch summer flounder in New Jersey.
The New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council on Thursday approved regulations to set the season at 122 days from May 18 to Sept. 16. Last year's summer flounder season was 147 days.
The daily bag limit of five fish per day and the minimum size of 17.5 inches remain the same.
The Press of Atlantic City reports the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission blames a decline in spawning stock for lowering the East Coast flounder harvest.
New Jersey's season was cut the most because fishermen in the state caught more than the state's quota of summer flounder last year.
The panel might consider adding additional days at its next meeting in May.
