Firehouse Roof Collapses Under Heavy Snow

No one was hurt in the collapse

The strong storm has started to show its dangerous side as the heavy snow caused the collapse of a Delaware firehouse roof.

The roof of Townsend Fire Department Station 26 fell just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Delaware Emergency Management officials said.

Firefighters, who were inside the station, say they began to hear the roof creaking and then watched as the ceiling over the engine bay fell to the ground.

No one of the equipment was damaged in the collapse, officials said. The station has been taken out of operation and the trucks moved to nearby stations.

This collapse shows just how dangerous heavy, accumulating snow can be. Meteorologist Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz says we should expect to see more structure collapses under the weight of the snow coupled with strong winds.
