Fire Rips Through 2 Southwest Philadelphia Row Homes

Two homes were destroyed and a third damaged by an early morning blaze in Southwest Philadelphia.

The fire started in a house at the end of the 5400 block of Florence Avenue and quickly spread to two others, according to fire officials.

"The smoke alarms went off and when I woke up I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face," said fire victim Denise.

Firefighters worked for hours on extinguishing the blaze.

Everyone in the homes were able to make their way out safely.

Neighbors say the home were the fire began had been abandoned and boarded up until just a few weeks ago.

"About three weeks ago, folks started moving back in -- renovating and moving back things," said neighbor Al Jumpp.

It's unclear if residents at the home had the city's permission to move back in.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
