Blaze Leaves Hole Near Roof of New Jersey Catholic School

A South Jersey Catholic school caught fire Friday morning leaving a hole in the building.

Our Lady of Hope Regional School on Black Horse Pike in Blackwood was already closed due to snow when flames broke out around 7:45 a.m. A maintenance worker at the school reported the fire, Gloucester Township police said.

Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the special classes building where art and computer classes are held and the library is located when firefighters arrived, police said. The fire was brought under control about 45 minutes later.

No injuries were reported, Camden County dispatchers said.

The fire left a hole near the roof of the building.

It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the fire or how much damage it caused inside. The fire didn't damage the entire school building, police said.

NBC10 has reached out to the Camden Diocese and school administration for comment about the extent of damage to the structure.

Our Lady of Hope is a kindergarten through 8th grade school that has roughly 400 students.
