Federal, Local Candidates on NJ Ballots

New Jersey voters get to choose their members of the House of Representatives and a U.S. senator in this week's elections.

Many towns also have local elections.

No state lawmakers are on Tuesday's ballots. But voters are being asked to decide two ballot questions on constitutional amendments.

One would repeal the right of bail for those charged with crimes. That measure is part of a broader overhaul of the state's bail system intended to make it easier to hold suspects deemed dangerous and also let low-level suspects free without paying as they await trial.

A second measure would dedicate funding to preserving open space.

The top race is for U.S. Senate between Republican Jeff Bell and Democratic incumbent Cory Booker.

Polls are open 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
