Alleged Victim of Police Impersonator Robbery Recants Story: Police

A man who told police he was pistol whipped and robbed by a fake officer recanted his story, according to officials.

The man initially told police he was approached by a suspect who was driving a black Ford Explorer with flashing lights and no sirens on S. Concourse Drive and Belmont Avenue at 8:41 p.m. Sunday. He said the suspect then struck him in the head with a gun and stole $100 from him before fleeing the scene.

Police later told NBC10 the alleged victim recanted his story and told them that he owed the man money.

Police also told NBC10 they are investigating an incident on 50th and Jefferson streets Sunday night that may have involved a police impersonator robbing a victim. They have not yet released details on the incident.
