A Delaware man who was charged last month in Arkansas with the 1967 shooting death of a man at Newport will be extradited to Arkansas.
Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that Delaware's governor issued extradition papers Thursday for 67-year-old James Clay. The sheriff said Clay will be returned next week to await arraignment.
Clay is charged in the shooting death of James Ricks of North Little Rock.
Prosecutors say Clay and his brother Leon Clay robbed a Little Rock pawn shop, then found Ricks asleep in his car.
The Clays allegedly drove Ricks and the car to Newport where they shot him in the head. Leon Clay has since died.
The brothers were later convicted of taking the stolen car and stolen weapons across state lines, but never charged in Ricks' death until James Clay allegedly confessed in Delaware to a cellmate who notified police.
