The lawyer for a retired Philadelphia judge says he'll plead guilty to criminal charges in connection with using his judicial office to run his private property-management company.
Sam Stretton told Wednesday's Inquirer that Willis Berry is pleading guilty to unspecified charges in his conflict-of interest and theft-of-services case.
The state attorney general's office arrested the 72-year-old ex-Common Pleas judge in May and accused him of directing his judicial secretary to help handle his private business operations.
They say he owned and managed as many as 16 properties, including multi-unit rental properties.
The state's Judicial Conduct Board filed a complaint in December 2007. The attorney general's office took over in July 2013.
Berry retired in 2012. Stretton says he won't be required to cooperate with other investigations.
