A retired Jersey City police officer faces attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot and wounded a man during a dispute in a city bar.
The Jersey Journal reports that 63-year-old city resident James Corley Jr. also faces a weapons charge in connection with the shooting that occurred around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. His bail was set at $250,000 and it wasn't known if he had retained an attorney.
The 41-year-old victim, a city resident whose name was not released, was shot three times. He was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Witnesses said the men had argued in the bar, but further details were not disclosed.
Corley retired from the police department in 2004, then was chief of staff for former Police Department Director Sam Jefferson.
