Emaciated Dogs Found Buried in Trash

Police are investigating an animal cruelty case in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia.
Officers originally executed a body warrant at a home on the 2600 block of North 23rd Street on Sunday for a suspect in an assault case.

When they arrived at the house, they say they discovered two emaciated pit-bull mix dogs in the backyard. One dog was found lying on top of four feet of trash. The other was found tied up and buried underneath the trash.

PSPCA officers were soon called in to remove the animals.

Police also say they found drugs, a starving cat and numerous fleas and other parasites inside the home. Investigators say the entire family, which consists of a husband and wife, two teenage sons, and a 20-year-old son, will face animal cruelty charges.

The dogs were taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment. They are currently with the SPCA receiving medical care and are expected to recover.

The PSPCA also says the animals will eventually go up for adoption.
