An 82-year-old man shot his 79-year-old wife in the common area of a Delaware nursing home over the weekend then turned the gun on himself.

On Saturday just after 1 p.m., troopers were called to ManorCare Health Services on Foulk Road in Wilmington, Delaware State Police said Monday.

They found Gail Camerota, a nursing home resident, and her husband, Louis Camerota, dead of gunshot wounds in a common area of the facility, investigators said.

Louis Camerota went to the facility to visit his wife, police said. He then approached his wife in the common area, shot her and then himself, police said.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science performed autopsies and ruled the deaths as murder/suicide. A handgun was recovered at the scene, officials said.
