Man Hospitalized After SUV Plunges Into River

Fire officials say an elderly man was taken to a hospital for observation after his SUV plunged into the Susquehanna River in central Pennsylvania.

Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline tells Pennlive.com the man was the only person inside the SUV and no other vehicles were involved. He didn't know the man's name or exact age.

It's not clear exactly how the SUV ended up in the river late Sunday afternoon. Enterline says it likely traveled down a lane that vehicles use to launch boats into the water from the west shore town of Wormleysburg because the SUV wasn't heavily damaged.

It was submerged about 20 yards from the shore in water that was about 38 degrees. Enterline says crews rescued the man within 12 minutes of receiving the emergency call.
