South Jersey Mom With Girl on Board Crashes Into South Jersey Motel, Faces DWI

A South Jersey mother faces DWI charges after police say she smashed her sedan into the side of a motel, causing “significant damage.”

Bernadette McDaniels’ 4-year-old daughter was in the backseat the entire ride, said Egg Harbor Township Police.

McDaniels lost control of her 2009 Nissan Maxima as she drove east on Tilton Road around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and wound up on the crossing over opposing traffic before slamming into the Rex Motel – across the street from the Wawa entrance near Idlewood Avenue.

The impact left the brick motel “structurally unsound,” said the township building inspector.

Officers found that McDaniels appeared to be impaired so she was arrested for multiple moving violations, child endangerment and drug possession.

A municipal judge arraigned McDaniels and sent her to Atlantic County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

No word on who is caring for the girl.
