Should Delaware Give Millions to Dow-DuPont Development?

UPDATE: The money was approved by the state panel.

A state panel will meet to decide whether to provide millions of taxpayer dollars to the DuPont Co.

DuPont, which announced in December that it is merging with Dow Chemical, is requesting up to $9.6 million over five years from the state's Strategic Fund.

The request to be considered Monday by the Council on Development Finance includes $6 million in matching funds to reimburse DuPont for 3 percent of capital expenditures up to $200 million.

The state offered the money as an incentive to secure the headquarters of a new stand-alone agriculture business to be spun off after the Dow-DuPont merger.

DuPont is also asking for a $3.6 million grant to support job creation.
