A suspected drunk driver’s joyride left a wake of smashed vehicles, according to Philadelphia Police.
The first car wrecked is the personal vehicle of a police officer. The suspected drunk driver smashed his SUV into the officer's car around Richmond and Westmoreland Streets in the Port Richmond section of the city around 10:30 Wednesday night.
After the first wreck, the SUV sped off, taking off down nearby side streets, according to accident investigators.
The SUV sped around a SEPTA bus while driving the wrong way down various streets. An off-duty officer caught up to the driver as he smashed into more parked cars along 3100 block of Tulip Street. Eventually the man stopped and jumped out of his car to avoid the off-duty officer, investigators said.

That’s when neighbors stepped in and tackled the suspect to the ground, holding him until a K-9 officer got to the scene.
“That guy was pretty much drunk,” said witness Kyle Strzelecki. “When he got out of the car he just had no idea where he was, what happened.”
Luckily no one was hurt. At least eight parked cars, however, were damaged.
The man is expected to be charged with various counts.
