The drought warning in effect for much of New Jersey is leading to issues for fishermen, boaters and others taking part in fall recreation.
Officials last Friday issued a drought warning for 14 of New Jersey's 21 counties due to a lack of rainfall and dwindling water-supply conditions.
The Record reports that the drought has taken a toll on trout fishing, boating, duck hunting and other fall recreation.
Volunteers who help stock the Ramapo River with trout say they had a hard time finding places to release the fish.
Lisa Barno, of the state Division of Fish and Wildlife, says recent cooler nighttime temperatures will help for stocked fish. But she says a continuing drought will be a problem for native wild trout, because this is the start of their breeding season.
