Driver on Life Support After Shot in Head, Body in West Philly

A man is fighting for his life after suffering gunshot wounds to the head and the body when a passenger in his car opened fire while the pair, along with a woman, were sitting in the parked vehicle on a West Philly street, police said.

The gunman, who was sitting in the backseat, started shooting around 12:30 a.m. as they sat in the car along the 5500 block of Sansom Street, officials said.

The woman -- sitting in the frontseat -- jumped out of the car and flagged down a passing patrol car, investigators said.

Authorities said they rushed the 42-year-old victim to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
