Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Pennsylvania SPCA workers removed dozens of cats and dogs from a Northeast Philadelphia home after they were found living in filthy conditions.
Workers removed 20 dogs and four cats from a home on the 2800 block of Walnut Hill Road. The dogs, Chihuahua and Terrier mixes, were living in extreme unsanitary conditions and suffered from flea infestation.
“I’ve been doing this for 20 years and this is the worst I’ve ever seen a basement. You can’t breathe,” said George Bengal, PSPCA Director of Law Enforcement.
Workers had to wear masks because the smell was unbearable, according to Bengal.
“The ammonia level is so high in the basement; a human cannot go down there and breathe without choking and gagging, “said Bengal.
Bengal said the owners appeared to be breeders and that the situation got out of control. Neighbors called police about the home.
No charges have been filed against the owners at this time.
