Dorney Park Owner Challenges Worker Safety Violations

The owner of a Pennsylvania amusement park is challenging a federal regulator's findings that it failed to protect summertime workers from extreme heat, including a teenager who was burned after collapsing near a deep fryer.

The Easton Express-Times reports Wednesday that Cedar Fair Entertainment wants an independent federal commission to review the citations issued last month on Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed a $7,000 fine for the Allentown park's alleged failure to protect outdoor and concession stand workers from sunlight and other heat sources.

It's proposing an additional $2,000 for a record-keeping violation.

OSHA says the park should've had a heat-illness prevention program in place with shaded breaks and water available.

Sandusky, Ohio-based Cedar Fair operates parks in 9 states and Canada.
