Delaware's Dogfish Head Names 1st CEO

Delaware's Dogfish Head Craft Brewery has named a chief executive officer for the first time.

Nick Benz was promoted to CEO after spending 11 years at the Milton-based brewery.

Brewery founder Sam Calagione remains president and chairman of the board.

The company says Benz will expand the breadth and depth of operations, while Calagione focuses on strategy, new products and collaborations.

Benz is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business. He lives in Lewes.

NOTE: In a story Oct. 9 about Dogfish Head Craft Brewery naming a chief executive officer, The Associated Press, relying on a member story, reported erroneously that founder Sam Calagione had stepped down as CEO of the brewery. Calagione was never CEO, but the company did name Nick Benz as CEO. Benz is the first to hold that position.
