Neighbors Use Shovel, Chair to Scare Off Dog That Bit Boy

Neighbors used a chair and shovel to scare off a dog after it bit a child in North Philadelphia Thursday morning.

The dog bit a 9-year-old boy waiting with his sister for the bus along Diamond Street in the city’s Strawberry Mansion section around 6:30 a.m., said Philadelphia Police.

"I was asleep in the bed and I just heard my daughter screaming," said the boy's mother who asked not to be named. "I came to the window and I see that there is a dog chasing them."

A neighbor spotted the attack and used a chair and another person hit the animal with a shovel to scare off the dog, which fled to a nearby porch, a witness told NBC10.

Medics took the boy to Hahnemann Hospital to be treated for a wound to his lower back. Police said they expected the boy to be OK.

It wasn’t clear where the dog came from. Philadelphia Animal Control officers came to the scene to wrangle up the animal.
