Requests go out next month for cities to bid on the 2016 Democratic National Convention and there's a team of people pushing Philadelphia to throw its hat in the ring.
Montgomery County Commission Chairman Josh Shapiro is part of the team, led by Congressman Bob Brady. He talked to NBC10's Daralene Jones about some of the biggest challenges they face.
"Well again I think getting everybody rowing in the same direction, putting everybody in position to understand the dramatic and significant economic impact," said Shapiro.
Congressman Brady tells NBC10 he's not opposed to the RNC coming to Philadelphia as well.
"When they were here in 2000, they loved it. They're still talking about it, so sure, if they asked me, my Republican colleagues, asked me if I would be interested. I'd say 'yeah, we would be interested in doing it again,' " said Brady.
Brady says city data shows in 2000, the RNC generated $345 million for the city, with spending on hotel stays and restaurants. He estimates the DNC could bring in $200 million to Philadelphia.
After initial requests are sent out next month, it's up to city leaders to put a packet together to pitch the city to the democrats.
A Democratic National Convention hasn't been held in Philadelphia since 1948.
