Video Shows 2 Men Leaving Piles of Mail on Philadelphia Street Corner

The U.S. Postal Service is working to return all the mail to its rightful owners

An investigation is underway after two men were captured on video dumping dozens of containers of mail on a Philadelphia street corner.

Surveillance video from ServiceMaster Omega Restoration, a nearby business, captured a black SUV pulling up on 6th and Wingohocking streets in the city's Hunting Park section Wednesday. Two men then get out of the vehicle and drop the bins on the street corner.

"From the footage it just seems they were very brazen and not a care in the world," Tim Swihart, of ServiceMaster Omega Restoration, said. "Took their time. Slow and steady. Methodical-like."

Nearby residents alerted the U.S. Postal Service who retrieved the mail.

"I just pray that everybody gets their mail in the time that they were expecting to receive it," Jamiee Hatcher, one of the people who found the bins, told NBC10. "I recognize that there was actually mail that belonged to people because I saw one of the letters. It was coming from another city within the state and it was going to what looked to be a rehab off of 15th and Arch."

The U.S. Postal Service confirmed the mail was destined for Center City businesses that paid for someone to pick up and deliver it. Investigators with the postal service later determined that the delivery van and mail were both stolen on Tuesday however. They also said that the black SUV spotted in the surveillance video was not the stolen delivery van, which has not yet been found.

Investigators believe that whoever stole the mail only wanted the delivery van that the mail was inside.

The U.S. Postal Service is working to return all the mail to its rightful owners.

The men captured on surveillance video are not considered suspects and it's unknown at this time if they were involved in the theft in any way. Philadelphia police still want the public to contact them if they recognize the men however.
