State leaders plan to show off a new land acquisition that they claim will help preserve wildlife in Delaware.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons, U.S. Rep. John Carney, federal and state wildlife officials and environmental groups will mark the addition of nearly 750 acres to the Ted Harvey Conservation Area near Dover and the protection/conservation of nearly 2,000 acres of wetlands.
The state purchased the Vance Morris Tract, near Bowers Beach, thanks to a $1 million federal wetlands grant, according to the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
In total, about $6 million in grants, public and private funds will help protect the conservation area.
Part of Wednesday's event includes a boat tour of the new acquisition.
The Ted Harvey Conservation Area is named for the founder of Delaware Wild Lands, the group that originally purchased the land in 1967, according to EcoDelaware.com.
