Floating Hard Hat Leads to Construction Worker in Delaware River Who Later Dies

A construction worker died after he fell into the Delaware River on the job Thursday night, said Philadelphia Police.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said officers were called to Pier 78 in south Philadelphia after 8:30 p.m.

The man had been working at the pier when he disappeared. His hard hat was seen floating in the water and his car was still parked nearby.

A police marine unit found the man around 9:30 p.m. The man, whose age wasn't released, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

His death remained under investigation Friday.
