Delaware Makes Offer to Repurchase House in Brandywine Hundred

The Delaware Department of Transportation has made an offer to repurchase a dilapidated home from the early 1800s that is perched atop a hill in Brandywine Hundred.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that the Weldin House on Philadelphia Pike has been vacant for the past decade, with the current owner failing on a commitment to restore the structure.

The state sold the local landmark in 2005 for $52,000 after being assured by its new owner, the Sycamore Development Group, that it would restore the home.

State Rep. Debra Heffernan says the state has tried to make Sycamore restore the home and has now offered to repurchase the property for $52,000.

Sycamore sued the county last year, arguing that restoration work didn't go forward because of the 2008 recession.
