Delaware's chief medical examiner has been suspended from his job amid an investigation of evidence tampering at a state drug-testing lab overseen by his office.
Delaware's health and social services secretary issued a statement Friday saying Dr. Richard Callery had been suspended with pay on Tuesday pending completion of an internal human resources investigation.
DHSS officials did not provide any details about the human resources investigation.
But they said they were continuing to cooperate with a police investigation of drug evidence being tampered with, substituted or going missing after being submitted to the medical examiner office's Controlled Substances Laboratory.
Authorities have identified at least 21 cases dating to 2010 in which there potential problems with drug evidence have been identified.
Callery is one of the highest-paid employees in state government.
