Delaware Man Indicted on Bicycle Manslaughter Charges

The driver in a crash that killed a 27-year-old bicyclist has been indicted on a manslaughter charge.

A New Castle County grand jury last month returned the indictment against 44-year-old Gabriel Pardo of Hockessin.

County police say on Sept. 12, Phillip Bishop of Hockessin was riding south on a local road when a northbound car hit him and left. Authorities say Pardo called police the next day, saying he had hit something the night before and wondered if it was related to Bishop's death.

Pardo was initially charged with criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.

Pardo's lawyer, Joseph A. Hurley tells the News Journal of Wilmington that he is not surprised by the new charges.
