Delaware is experiencing a late spike in flu cases this season with 92 lab-confirmed cases recorded last week.
The Delaware Division of Public Health said Wednesday that figure was roughly double the number of cases for the preceding week and could grow higher. Before Feb. 13, officials said only 100 people had tested positive for influenza.
The figures don't reflect a recent flu outbreak at Howard Young Prison that's sickened at least 30 inmates.
DPH Director Karyl Rattay says the reason for spike in cases is unclear. She says most of this season's flu cases were in people who weren't vaccinated, though there could be many unreported cases.
Although the spike is occurring relatively late, Rattay says anyone older than 6 months who's still unvaccinated should receive a flu shot.
