Delaware County Courthouse Evacuated

Courthouse in Media cleared for police activity

About a 1,000 people including jurors, lawyers, judges and county employees, were evacuated from the Delaware County Courthouse in Media Tuesday morning for police activity.

The building at 201 W Front Street was cleared out before 10:30 a.m., park police told NBC10.

There were no reports of injuries.

NBC10 learned that employees would be allowed back into the building around 1 p.m.

Per a press release from county spokesman Bill Lovejoy:

The decision to resume normal County Government business was made by County Council after conferring with law enforcement that the complex had been searched thoroughly and the facilities were safe to reenter.

The facilities were searched by eight K-9 teams trained to detect dangerous devises.  The three K-9 teams from the Office of the Delaware County Sheriff were joined by three teams from Amtrak, one from SEPTA and one from Temple University.

It’s unclear if the evacuation caused any major delays in trials or proceedings.

The incident leading to the evacuation was under investigation.
