State environmental officials are continuing to seek public input on developing regulations for shellfish aquaculture in Delaware's inland bays.
Officials planned to hold a second public workshop Wednesday evening at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control field facility on Pilottown Road in Lewes.
The workshop is intended to gather additional public input before proposed regulations are formally initiated.
The General Assembly passed a law last year calling for the Division of Fish and Wildlife to draft regulations for commercial shellfish aquaculture and to administer shellfish aquaculture in the Inland Bays.
Merriam-Webster defines “aquaculture” as the cultivation of aquatic organism (as fish or shellfish) especially for food.
The plan is to allow shellfish farmers to raise shellfish such as oysters in containers or cages until they are market-sized, then harvest them for sale.
