Delaware Man Faces 7th DUI Charge

Police say a Felton man is facing his seventh drunken driving charge.

Media outlets report that Harrington police officers patrolling South DuPont Highway early Saturday pulled over a vehicle that was speeding and turned south into northbound lanes.

Police say they could smell alcohol in the car and took the driver, 50-year-old Joseph Dopirak Jr., into custody after field sobriety tests. Police say they learned Dopirak had six previous driving under the influence convictions and wasn't allowed to drive vehicles without ignition interlock devices.

Police charged Dopirak with seventh offense driving under the influence, operating a motor vehicle in violation of restrictions, driving the wrong way on a one way road and failure to obey a traffic control device. He was committed in default of secured bond.
