Deaf Man Shot in Robbery Attempt

Police say suspect announced the robbery, but the victim was unable to communicate.

A man is in critical condition following a robbery attempt on Tuesday in the Kensington section of the city.

The 27-year-old man was outside of a home on 1800 block of E. Thayer Street just after 4 a.m. when he was approached by a man, witnesses told investigators.

They also told police that the victim is deaf and when the suspect announced the robbery, he was unable to communicate and the suspect opened fire.

The victim was shot in the stomach.

He is in critical condition at Temple Hospital.

The suspect is described by witnesses as a 160-pound black man wearing a blue sweatsuit.

He was last scene driving east on W. Moreland Street in a gold Chevy Impala.
