High School Grad Charged in Crash That Killed Teen

A Pennsylvania man has been charged with vehicular homicide while driving drunk for allegedly causing a crash two days after his high school graduation that killed a female college student.

Ethan Kenney, who turned 19 last week, faces a preliminary hearing Friday on 13 total counts stemming from the June 9 crash that killed 19-year-old Catherine Healy. Healy was a 2011 graduate of Connellsville Area High School, from which Kenney graduated last year. Healy was attending Penn State-Behrend and was the only passenger when Kenney's pickup crashed about 4 a.m.

Kenney's attorney, Samuel Davis, called the crash β€œa terrible tragedy” and Healy's death the most significant part of the case. Still, he's hoping the charge of vehicular homicide while driving drunk can be dismissed because it carries a mandatory three- to -six-year prison sentence for the Dunbar Township resident.

Kenney is due in court next week, according to online records.
