Speed Was a Factor in Deadly Crash That Split Car in 2: Police

One young man is dead and a second injured in a crash so intense that the car they were in was split in two.

The deadly crash happened just before 1 a.m. Monday on the 1600 block of North Broad Street in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County.

Police tell NBC10 that two men in their early 20s were inside a vehicle, possibly an Acura Integra, when it crashed into a pole, killing one of the men on impact and badly injuring another.

The second victim was flown to Jefferson University Hospital in critical condition.

Speed was a factor in the crash, according to officials on the scene.

A man who works at a store nearby told NBC10's Katy Zachry that the sound of the impact stopped him dead in his tracks.

Firefighters were cleaning up fluid on the road and investigators remained on scene collecting evidence for more than five hours.

The road is expected to reopen around 7 a.m.
