Day Care Provider Guilty in Baby's Head Injury

A central Pennsylvania day care provider has been convicted of causing life-threatening head injuries to a five-month-old girl.

Authorities say 40-year-old Jalene McClure of State College never called 911 or the girl's parents to report the injuries in August 2010.

The Centre Daily Times said the mother found her daughter looking pale and unresponsive, and took her to a hospital. The child was then flown to Geisinger Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with a skull fracture and other injuries.

Police said that McClure later told them she had tripped while holding the baby. They called that account inconsistent with the injuries.

McClure was convicted Friday of aggravated assault, child endangerment and other charges.

She is in jail awaiting sentencing. A call to her lawyer Saturday was not immediately returned.
