Armed Robbery Leads to $1 Million Drug Bust in Darby Township

An armed robbery investigation led to a $1 million drug bust in Darby Township.

On November 9 around 10 a.m., Darby Township Police received a call reporting an armed robbery at a business within the industrial area on Calcon Hook Road. By the time police arrived the suspects had already fled the scene however. The officers processed the crime scene and secured evidence which included surveillance video of an earlier, unreported armed robbery outside the same business, investigators said.

After police discovered the target of the robbery they turned the investigation over to Darby Township Detective Cory Cooper. Cooper’s investigation led to the discovery of a large multi-state drug trafficking operation. Federal Drug Enforcement agents, DEA Task Force officers and the FBI then joined the investigation and conducted an undercover operation.

The operation led to the seizure of two kilograms of cocaine, 125 pounds of high grade hydroponic “hydro” marijuana and 153 pounds of high grade organic marijuana. The estimated street value of all the drugs seized was $1 million.

So far one man has been arrested in connection to the investigation though police have not revealed his identity. He is being held at the George Hill Correctional Facility in lieu of $400,000 cash bail as the investigation continues.
