A southwestern Pennsylvania man who fatally shot his teenage son while cleaning a handgun has been sentenced to five years' probation and fined $500.

A southwestern Pennsylvania man who fatally shot his teenage son while cleaning a handgun has been sentenced to five years' probation and fined $500.

Somerset County prosecutors say 44-year-old Robert Duda received a sentence with no jail time because the death of his 14-year-old son Bryan was a "tragic accident."

Investigators say Robert Duda was cleaning a handgun inside his Somerset Township home on Sept. 15, 2011, when he pointed the gun at the boy thinking it was unloaded.

A Tuesday's sentencing Robert Duda told a judge he wants "no more to do with guns" following his son's death. He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in October.

Somerset County District Attorney Lisa Lazzari-Strasiser says Bryan Duda's death is a terrible reminder of the importance of gun safety.
