Tempers flared in Colwyn, Pa. as the district attorney withdrew theft charges against the embattled public safety director. The officers who brought those charges were then fired.
A Colwyn police officer charged his boss, public safety director Rochelle Bilal, with theft for allegedly intercepting mail addressed to borough officers on Sunday.
Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan says his office never approved the charges against Bilal, an ex-Philadelphia police officer whose tenure with the borough has been marked by controversy.
Philadelphia police raided Colwyn's police department in May, as part of an investigation into Bilal's hiring.
The investigation centers on whether the 56-year-old former officer broke city rules by accepting the Colwyn job before she resigned from the city police force.
City council president Tonette Pray has refused to release details about Bilal's hiring.
