Curfew in Place at Del. Apartment Complex

An emergency curfew has been imposed at an apartment complex in Laurel, Del. that has seen a recent rise in violence

An emergency curfew has been imposed at apartment complex in Laurel that has seen a rise in violence in recent months.

The mayor and town council have imposed a curfew at the Carvel Gardens apartment complex and annex in Laurel to keep nonresidents out from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The curfew took effect Wednesday night.

Police say anyone caught loitering outside will be arrested.

Mayor John Shwed says the curfew will end when conditions improve.

Shwed says municipal officials decided to act after a shooting last week that left one person injured and cars in the parking lot riddled with bullet holes.

He says officials also consulted with police and officials in the state housing authority and attorney general's office.
