Driver Runs Over Philly Crossing Guard Who Yelled at Him

Philadelphia police are looking for a driver who purposely hit a crossing guard after she yelled at him for almost hitting a child with his car near Laura H. Carnell School.

Philly.com reports police announced the manhunt Thursday, but say the incident happened a day earlier about 8:10 a.m. at Devereaux and Summerdale Avenues in Northeast Philadelphia.

The car turned left and nearly hit the child even after the guard had stopped traffic so the child could cross the street, said police. When the crossing guard yelled at the man, he put the car in reverse, backed over a median, then struck the guard.

Police haven't released the guard's name, but say she was taken to Aria Health-Torresdale Campus with injuries to her right arm, hand, left knee and shoulder.

They described the driver as being a man in his 20s or 30s who wore a baseball cap and drove a silver vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia Police.
