The Ocean City Patch reports the beached whale was discovered on Dog Beach on the opposite side of the Ocean-City Longport Bridge Monday morning.

Emergency crews and bystanders helped carry the whale, which was still alive, to a Stranding Center truck. It was taken to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, according to the Ocean City Patch.

The Ocean City Patch reports the whale’s back was sliced several times, likely by a boat propeller. Technicians told the Ocean City Patch they believe the whale is a pygmy sperm whale.
