1 Injured in Crash Outside Delaware Children's Hospital

A driver was injured in a crash right outside a Delaware children's hospital after he ran a red light Sunday morning, according to Delaware State Police.

Manuel Fernandez, 41, of Media, Pa. was driving his Chevy Impala east on Powder Mill Rd. near SR 141 when he ran a red light and hit an approaching Hyundai driven by 65-year-old Jon Dimarizo, police said.

The impact caused the Hyundai to spin and hit another car, a Dodge Caliber, while it was stopped. Meanwhile, the Impala continued moving until it veered off the road and hit a wooden post at the corner of Children's Way just outside the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children around 9:30 a.m.

Fernandez was transported by helicopter to Christiana Medical Center where he was treated and released.

He was ticketed for inattentive driving and failure to stop at a red light. He was also cited for driving without a license or proof of insurance, State Police confirmed.

No one else was injured in the crash.
