Surveillance Shows Cars Suspected of Racing Just Before Crash That Killed Toddler

New surveillance video shows a car suspected of engaging in a deadly street race in North Philadelphia, then leaving the scene when its opponent crashed into another vehicle, killing a 3-year-old girl.

The video shows the striking vehicle in the deadly crash, a light-colored Honda, speeding down 2nd Street alongside a darker vehicle. Police say the lighter car struck another Honda in which Esther Alejandra Palmer, 3, was traveling with her mother and grandmother at York Street.

Esther, in the back seat at the time, flew from the vehicle through a window on impact, police said. She landed on the sidewalk and died a short time later at a nearby hospital.

Police suspected the 17-year-old boy in the striking car -- which did stop at the scene -- of engaging in a street race. They said the other vehicle shown in the video that does appear to be racing struck a traffic light, then sped off.

Investigators hope the video will help them to track down that vehicle and find the driver.
