Ex-Delco Boy Scout Leader Charged With Child Pornography

Federal investigators say they also found conversations on Gerrett Conover's home computer that led them to believe Conover may have also had an inappropriate relationship with a young scout.

A man who used to be a Boy Scout leader in Radnor, Delaware County, Pennsylvania sits in jail, accused of child pornography.

Federal investigators say they also found conversations on Gerrett Conover's home computer that led them to believe Conover may have also had an inappropriate relationship with a young scout.

From 1999 to 2001, Conover was a leader of Troop 284 in Radnor, according to the Boy Scouts of America organization based in Valley Forge, Pa. The troop met at the Wayne Presbyterian Church. According to the statement from federal investigators, in addition to pornographic images found on Conover's computer:

Also, uncovered was an additional Internet chat in which Conover acknowledged having a long-term relationship with a boy while the boy was 10 to 17 years of age. During the Internet chat, Conover allegedly stated that he served as a Boy Scout leader and obtained access to the boy after Boy Scout meetings and during trips.

Investigators say Conover told them that he met the boy through the Scouts and had access to the boy after Scout meetings and during trips.

Conover, 47, now lives in Woolwich Township, New Jersey. He was arrested last week by U.S. Immigration and Customs agents as he tried to come back into the U. S. from Canada with a computer allegedly containing more than 50 images of child pornography, according to a press release from customs enforcement (ICE).

Conover faces one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography. The charge carries a penalty of five to 20 years in prison plus a $25,000 fine if he is found guilty.

Radnor Township Police posted a release to their website that asks the public to contact them if they had any further information about Conover’s past.  The ICE HSI tipline is 1-866-DHS2-ICE and/or Radnor Police can be reached at: 610-688-0503.
