Video of Missing Student Leads Search for Shane Montgomery Back to the Water: Sources

After new video surfaced, according to sources, investigators returned to the river and canal two weeks after a college student vanished from a nearby bar while out with friends the night before Thanksgiving.

Shane Montgomery was last seen in the early hours of Thanksgiving when he left Kildare's Irish Pub along Main Street in Manayunk.

Shane's mother Karen Montgomery said investigators had "narrowed down their search" Wednesday.

That narrowed search was due to recently surfaced video that sources close to the investigation said shows Shane walking toward the canal after leaving the bar.

The FBI wouldn't confirm the new video but FBI spokesman J.J. Klaver said that information developed Wednesday shows Shane walking between the Manayunk Canal and the Schuylkill River soon after he left a nearby bar

Crews searched the nearby canal, Schuylkill River and river bank to look for clues in the disappearance of the 21-year-old West Chester University student and Roxborough native.

A boat could be seen on the Schuylkill River and Philadelphia Police's crime scene unit could also be seen searching the banks of the river.

So far, searches near and far turned up no sign of Shane.

The Montgomery family and friends have spent countless hours raising awareness of Shane's disappearance β€” starting a website, handing out fliers and promoting green ribbons for Shane β€” in hopes someone saw the WCU senior on Main Street Manayunk in the early hours of Thanksgiving.

"Somebody knows where Shane is," Shane's mother said in the days after he went missing. "Somebody has to know something so you can't stop... It's a matter of he's our son and I won't ever stop looking for Shane."

Philadelphia Police and the FBI fanned out across the area searching the nearby Manayunk Canal and other areas but coming up with no clues leading to Shane.

The reward for information that helps find Shane Montgomery increased to $65,000 Tuesday.

Different groups including local businesses like Kildare's and Chubby's Steaks kicked in more money to help with the search for the Roman Catholic High School graduate.

Shane, who weighs about 140 pounds and stands 5-foot-11-inches tall, was wearing a buttoned- down gray shirt, gray hoodie and jeans when he left the bar. He also has a unique Celtic cross tattoo on his shoulder.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Philadelphia Police at 215.686.TIPS or the FBI at 215.418.4000.
