Cold Delays Firefighters Battling Massive Bucks County Blaze

Temperatures in the teens caused equipment problems for firefighters battling a massive blaze that destroyed the home of a Bucks County family.

Flames engulfed a home on Curley Mill Road in New Britain late Tuesday night, shooting through the roof of the property as crews worked to contain the fire, which broke out shortly before 10:30 p.m.

There are no fire hydrants on the street and bitter cold temperatures caused equipment problems for the Chalfont Fire Department.

"We actually had a problem on the ladder truck," said Chalfont Fire Chief Dennis McGuire.

Crews brought in a water tanker and the blaze was placed under control overnight.

A family of four escaped the fire unhurt.

Officials have  not yet released the fire's cause. An investigation is underway.
